Even with our very busy week, some of us still found time to have the flu!
Brynne fell the hardest - she's been sick for the past two days. I think we warded it off for Hannah with plenty of extra rest and careful food choices. Logan was bored out of his mind with no playmates! But, they got to watch tons of movies, which is a treat. And drink gatorade and eat applesauce.
Josh and I were in a skit on Wednesday night and sang a duet together. Pretty funny. I don't think we did that wonderfully but we got lots of compliments. I think people are always most grateful that it's not THEM doing the performing! One of the ladies in our ward was late getting there. A little while back her car broke down and her husband's been working on it. Well, on her way to our activity their other car broke down! We loaned her our old van for the night so she could get home. I told Josh, "this is why we got the second car!" It was nice to be able to help someone out, though!
I had to re-sleep train Kenna. She was starting to wake up more and more and stay awake for long periods at night (keeping me up!). I think she was searching for her pacifier. If I went in to stop the noise, she would be peering out of her crib onto the floor in the direction it had fallen. So I took them away. Normally she screams quite a bit when we try to put her to sleep without it. But as luck would have it, Logan happened to have knocked his curtain rod off it's hook and so instead of being pitch black in their bedroom, there was quite a bit of light. I think Kenna liked being able to see her little bunny and play with him while she fell asleep because she has gone to bed happily every time. I usually have the dark curtains up to prevent early awakening, but maybe she needs the light. She also slept in later than usual this morning (for which I was grateful). I'll have to re-think the curtains. Maybe I won't close them anymore.
On Wednesday Kenna had her 9-month check-up. No shots this time! She was 18lb, 3oz and is 26 inches tall (and some). My lovely doctor checked her all over and let Logan play with her scope thingy (for checking ears and noses), and let Brynne try out the stethoscope. They thought it was a great visit! We love our doctor. She is so nice and fun!
Before she got sick, Brynne was working on a cute story about a magical horse than can turn into a unicorn. She's been having fun working on her story.
Yesterday in the family room I came across a note written by the girls for one of their pretend games. I showed it to Josh and we both laughed - more evidence that our kids read too much. The note said, "Dear Jendra, I'm writing this letter so you will know that this is where I was murdered. Please only tell Kaylie and Melanie when you find this". A little gruesome, I know, but we thought it was hilarious.
Our beautiful coastal weather turned not-so-beautiful this week. What a shock to our systems. It feels like winter but it's really not that cold. It has been a bit drizzly, but mostly just gray, gray, gray. Perfect weather for staying inside with sick kids!
I don't know how many people are on the hunt for wheat...but I am. I'm looking at wheat grinders (or an attachment for my kitchenaid) and trying to decide what to do. I found a place in Montana that sells wheat or flour. It's organic, and has to be shipped, thus a little more than I want to pay, but they had a few recipes and some advice on making bread that I found VERY helpful and interesting. You can see the recipes HERE. My big problem with buying wheat flour at the grocery store is that wheat flour starts to go rancid almost as soon as it is ground as it is exposed to oxygen. That is why things we bake with wheat really don't have a wonderful flavor. It's not the wheat - it's the rancidity. If you grind your wheat fresh and then use it there is a HUGE difference in flavor. Thus, my overwhelming interesting in wheat grinding.
Josh has been super busy. His BOA, Kathy, was out of town for part of last week and the first two days of this week. Of course, he has on-calls coming in, but they just can't do the same stuff that Kathy can do. Every time Kathy is gone he says, "I'm never letting her take time off again". He ends up going to work earlier and staying later - so much more stuff to do! However, he does have a new gal that is going to start training and as she will probably take Kathy's place when Kathy retires in a few years, hopefully he can have an on-call BOA that can handle things the way he likes them. Still, he's found his week more stressful. Where was Kathy? I know everyone is wondering. She was at St. Louis at a special conference that she was invited to because of her superb customer service rating. She was among the highest rated BOAs in the firm! On other work news, which no one else will really care about - our region was recently split. We no longer have any part of the East Bay in our region. It will be so much easier to get to know people when there aren't over a hundred FAs and Spouses to meet and remember from year to year!

Emily and I have been looking for a way to grind wheat too. We came across this setup that has an adapter for kitchenaid, but it also can come with a hand crank. Just FYI
