Well, call me a bad mother...I did not get many pictures of my kids in their costumes this year. Mostly, they were too quick for me! Logan was a cowboy - a repeat of last year. Brynne created her own sorceress costume, and Hannah was a genie (also a self-created costume). They looked cute. Natalie was a duckie, and Kenna is shown below in her flower costume.
Kenna had a great time trick-or-treating. She loved all the decorations and friendly people. She didn't say trick-or-treat, or thank you, but she did say good-bye (loudly) once she was halfway down their driveway. And she liked eating candy. So did Natalie. We discovered Natalie frantically sucking on a tootsie pop that Kenna had given her...and she was not happy to have it taken away.
In other interesting news. Earlier that day, Kenna narrowly missed being mauled by a dog. As we were coming out of the library there was a small dog sitting at the feet of it's owner on a leash. Kenna, ever the animal lover, paused as she walked by and kind of crouched down to see the dog better. She was about 2 feet away at that point. The owner stroked her dog's head and talked nicely to Kenna, so Kenna took another step forward to see the dog closer. She did not try to touch him - she was just looking. I was standing right behind her watching the dog. As I watched, it suddenly occurred to me that even though the dog was silent, I thought I could see teeth that I hadn't seen before. I was just about to grab Kenna when the dog leapt at her. The dog owner and I both moved pretty quickly - partially because I had already made up my mind to pick up Kenna.
Kenna had very faint scratch marks on her face. I thought that was all...but then under her arm there was a deeper scratch that drew blood - just a touch. It was mostly just a superficial scratch though - the kind that are more bruise than anything else. I was scared about what almost happened to my baby - and grateful because it wasn't as bad as it could have been. And so far Kenna doesn't seem to have any memory of what happened and probably won't be emotionally scarred for life. :-) Lesson: keep further back from strange dogs.
And that was our Halloween! My kids have way more candy than they need and now I have to figure out what to do about it. We're saving some for decorating gingerbread houses...maybe I'll buy their candy from them like we did one year.
