Spring has Sprung!

It's been one thing after another around here.

We have officially finished our Ancient History series for the year and are starting our American History summer.  Since we'll be gone most of July, we are doing our summer school through May and June.  August is traditionally my prep month as I get ready for the upcoming year.

Josh and Hannah went to Oakland on Saturday for a stake temple day.  I was home with the younger kids because Kenna had been running a fever for a few days and we didn't know if she'd be well enough to travel (and expose other kids to any germs she might have).    We decided to dye a few eggs.  It was so much fun!  I used the food coloring that I had leftover from cake decorating.  Some of the colors didn't dissolve all the way, and that is how we got the very cool speckled look.  :-)  Food safe coloring was necessary because Natalie was drinking the water.  The water that had a Tablespoon of vinegar in it!  Crazy girl.  She also eats flour and sand.

Hannah's fund-raising efforts are going fabulously.  I think she has raised the most money of anyone on her team, and that's definitely thanks to our many friends and family who have so generously contributed.  We have fully qualified as a team to receive the $3,000 in a matching donation from the Mendocino Coast Children's Fund.  We are paying our room and board today and will be paying back the school district for the flights within two weeks....if all goes well.  Thanks for all the support we've received.  One month until the big competition!  Hannah and her team are re-doing some of their worn out props and preparing to ship them to Maryland in two weeks.

Yesterday we found a frog in our garden!  He seems to live here permanently, but he has definitely grown since the last time we saw him.  I love frogs. I think they might be my favorite animal.

Another major thing that happened yesterday is that we are now the proud owners of 2 chickens!  We have a sexlink and a wellsummer.  The wellsummer has been named Jazzy.  She is rather skittish and afraid of us so far.  The sexlink doesn't have a name, but she is the most docile.  Miss no-name laid our first egg this morning.  Very exciting!!!  The great thing about these chickens is that they come from Josh's cousin and his wife...and if for some reason having chickens doesn't work out for us, we can give them back at any time.  I like no risk things like that.

And finally...
Brynne's been taking violin for four months now.  She's doing great and she LOVES it.  I never have to remind her to practice.  Today she skipped downstairs to show me a Primary song that she was sounding out.  They just started learning the song this past Sunday, but she was able to remember the tune and pick it out on her violin.  I found the music for her so that she could double-check a few notes.  There's a section in the middle that she struggles with, but I think that she's doing tremendously well for only four months of lessons!   Side note - she makes me smile every day when I see what she's wearing or how she's doing her hair.  Such a cutie!
