We had a great weekend in Brookings. We stayed at the Whaleshead Beach Resort. It was pretty decent, but had some problems with small things not working (hot tub, DVD player).
I'm so glad we decided to go the reunion. We got to see family we love (hailing from near and far) and enjoy a different view. Granted, it was still ocean, but it was surprising just how different the two coastlines look.
On Saturday Josh and I woke up and felt the most relaxing sense of peacefulness. No phone, no chores, no schedule. We haven't had a true vacation like that in quite awhile. We took the kids for a little hike in the morning and then went to the reunion in the afternoon. At the reunion Josh and I got a big laugh. We had purchased dinner tickets for our entire family (all seven of us). The ticket stubs were entered in a raffle for various items. Six of our ticket stubs were drawn! I had written Josh's name on each stub just to keep it simple and it was so funny to hear his name get called repeatedly (one time three times in a row - kind of embarrassing!) Among other things, Josh won a leather jacket that is actually in his size. It's pretty nice. We also won a $50 gift card to Home Depot (luckily, there's one in Ukiah). Score!!
The craziest thing that happened at the reunion was that I saw a girl that I went to high school with. Who knew...she's a distant cousin of Josh's. It took me a while to place her and so I had to fake it at first. ;-) Her family is all from Cloverdale and my dad was their dentist. Ha, ha. Her uncle said, "Tell your Dad that I said Hi. That ought to scare the @#$%^ out of him!" Nice.
We spent the rest of the evening hanging out with Nathan, Jelaire, Sarah, and Brad. They are all fun to talk to and I love the discussions we have.
I couldn't sleep that night because I kept thinking about saying good-bye to Brynne on Sunday morning. We sent her back to Utah with Nathan and Jelaire. They are getting ready to move. I thought they might find her useful, and it seemed like she needed a special little something all her own (since Hannah is having two major trips this year). It's not that I don't trust Nathan and Jelaire (really) I just know that Brynne can be really hard to read and I was worried that she would have a problem and not say anything to them. Plus I was just going to miss her so dang much. She was pretty excited for her trip, though.
Our drive home on Sunday was not as nice as the last few trips we've taken with the little girls. I guess they were just worn out. Natalie picked on Kenna and then complained when we moved her carseat to a different row. We stopped in at the Brookings Harbor to visit the boats. Kenna had been begging all weekend to see them. We were able to see a few of them "swimming" (Kenna's word) around the harbor.
We stopped at a deli in Eureka for lunch that my dad recommended called "Hole In The Wall". There's no seating, so we grabbed our food and ate at a nearby park. The food was tasty and we thought we got a lot of food for the price. Lately when we travel we bring food like hummus and crackers, fruit, and carrot sticks, and eat by the ocean. But I've had too much of that lately (too much traveling) so we splurged. ;-)
Now we get a little break before the next onslaught (hee, hee) of two of my sisters and my infant niece. Josh and I pick Brynne up at the airport next Monday. Can't wait to see her and hear all about her week in Utah.
Meanwhile, they are doing roadwork on Chestnut and I am hiding in my house rather than venture out.
