Heaps o' Sugar

It's interesting to me to note differences in my children that are completely a result of their personality and less a result of their upbringing.

The other day I had Brynne doing some math on the computer to supplement our regular curriculum.  She didn't say she didn't want to, but every ounce of her body language was letting me know that she did NOT care to be doing math on the computer.  There was lots of sighing, a tight, angry back, and there may have even been a bit of eye-rolling.  Oh yes, and she was easily frustrated if she got an answer wrong.  Now Brynne normally loves math - it was the computer that she was annoyed to have to use.  I've also noticed that she doesn't really like to play with the Wii like the other kids.  She can take it or leave it, and will often wander off while the other two keep playing.  Electronics are just not her thing.  Climbing trees, on the other hand, and art projects - those are her things.

Contrast that with Logan, who also did math on the computer yesterday.  He was wiggling happily and giggling and I finally had to set a time limit for him so he wouldn't be on all day.  Granted, he loves math too...but he really loves his "tech time".   I'm going to have to remember that.  For him, sitting still and writing is about the worst punishment you could give him, but he'll happily do the exact same work if he can use the mouse and type his answers.

I think it's important that they have balance - Brynne needs to have basic computer skills, and Logan needs to have decent handwriting - but on the other hand, the joy of homeschooling is being able to play to their strengths.  Especially when it comes to introducing less popular topics.  Mary Poppins taught us that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down - and that's true in school, too!

We got Hannah's trimester report card yesterday.  Straight A's.  An A+ in two subjects, including Science.  She's really loving that class.  We also went to her choir concert on Friday night.  It was fun and she looked darling!

I was going to show some adorable pictures of Josh and the two little girls cooking together.  I will.  But I still haven't figured out exactly how to upload pictures from our new camera onto the computer.  There's something I'm supposed to do that I'm not getting yet, because I can't get the process to complete.
