Hiking

There was a break in the winter weather with some actual sunshine last week, so we scurried over to the recently re-done Otis Johnson Wilderness Park that is located smack in the middle of the city limits.  Crews from the nearby conservation camp (that's like a halfway place for people working themselves out of the prison system) have been doing a lot of work to turn this park into a nicer place with trails, stairs, and bridges.  It used to be a little scary to go there because homeless people would live in the brush and rowdy teenagers would go there to get away.  Now they have someone (a really nice guy who also happens to be a hearty 6'7") who lives full-time on the edge of the property and manages it.  I kept hearing suggestions that I should take the kids.  So we went.  Not all the trails were accessible because of the mud, but it will definitely be somewhere we go back when it's a little drier.  It's a nice place for a picnic, and for the kids to run around and explore.

Remember: clicking on the photos brings them up bigger - some are hard to see this tiny!

Doesn't that fat banana slug just make you hungry?

I love how the root is bridging over the stream

I said, "hey Kenna, smile!"  And this is what I got.  Cutie!

Sunshine on redwoods

Those are tall trees!

I was there too!

Can you tell that Hannah was Nat's buddy for the entire walk?  They had a great time together.

P-U-S-H!

Looks really nice. We'll have to take a trip if it's not wet when Ben and I come to visit.
