Wobbly walking, cooking catastrophes, and poetry practice!

I thought I'd just posted about two days ago. But it's already been a week. Time is just shooting past me and I feel like life is a constant whirlwind these days!

We're all excited around here because Brynne has a week off of school! The kids have big plans to go to the beach, maybe go swimming, play with their friends, and thoroughly enjoy some freedom. We're ready for some fun!

Natalie is heading towards walking at a slow, but steady rate. Her new thing this week is to take a couple of hesitant steps forward. She thinks very highly of her accomplishments!

Kenna and Natalie are starting to get into it every once in awhile. They fight over toys, mommy's lap, and anything else they can think of. Today Natalie spilled some water (outside) and Kenna tsk-tsked her way over with a paper towel and proceeded to clean up that water. All the while explaining in her baby talk "Baby, no-no water. Baby spill.". Natalie might think she's a big girl now, but Kenna is all about her place as the older of the two.

Hannah spent all week looking for her own math book. I spent all week looking. Finally, yesterday, I offered a prize to the person who found the math book first. Brynne walked right over to Hannah's school shelf (where she keeps ALL her current supplies), dug around a bit, and found the math book. Right where it belonged...and right where Hannah probably left it last (and it should be noted that Hannah swears she searched that shelf thoroughly). Hilarious!

It has never failed me if, after searching for something for awhile, I offer a prize to the finder - the missing object shows up within a day. Kids seem to be much better seekers when there's a reward involved.

School was a little sparse this week since I was recuperating from a cold and Hannah had a missing math book. To compensate, Hannah spent a lot of time on her music studies and history reading. Logan did a lot of math, handwriting, and spelling. I'll tell you one thing I love about this kid. He reads the library books that I check out. I plan to read them together, but he can't wait. I currently have two history books and three math books checked out for him, and he's
read all five of them. I never get to read to him! He also worked on memorizing a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson called
"At the Seaside". Our plan is to have a family talent night in March, so this will be something Logan can perform that night.

Hannah and Brynne made lemon bars for our ward Bake-Off last night. I don't know what went wrong. The first batch didn't even get mixed - they screwed up right at the start. So they started another batch, which they made to completion. I had some bars at the activity. And was very under-whelmed. No lemon flavor and very eggy. And yet when I questioned Brynne, she promised that they remembered the lemon flavor! Hmmm. The funny thing is, they made lemon bars last week and they tasted great, even though the bars were left in the oven too long.
: -) That's okay! Practice makes perfect. I hope.

Basketball is officially over. I can't tell how relieved I am. Loved watching the girls play, hated trying to organize all the various schedules in our family. When Odyssey of the Mind wraps up in two weeks I'm not going to know what to do with all the time on my hands.

I might start making dinner again.
