A little bit of spring

What a weekend!  On Monday morning Josh and I just slumped on the couch.  It was not an auspicious start to our week.  But what a wonderful weekend we had!

The highlights:

*A wonderful Relief Society dinner.  The music was lovely and the talks were edifying.  The stake had a great turnout - the biggest that I've ever seen.  And the evening did not disappoint.  Definitely looking forward to future activities!

*Running around Wal-mart with Sarah and Megan.  It felt a little bit like high school all over again...except it was Sarah instead of Julia.  Still fun.  If Ju ever comes back out here I'll take her to Wal-mart.  ;-)

*Shopping in Santa Rosa with Sarah.  Feeling sad for her morning sickness.  Introducing her to Mary's Pizza Shack and changing the entire tenor of her life.  Right Sarah?

*Watching Josh do a myriad of odd jobs for his Dad -  he spent all Saturday helping his parents.  What a good son!

*Watching my kids make new friends with some kids in the stake.  They had a great time.

*Listening to Josh's Mother's Day talk at church.  He gave a good one.  Funny, sweet, and appropriate.  And thank goodness he didn't say a word about me.  :-)

*Nachos for dinner with our friends the Smiths.  Kyle and Josh cooked and cleaned for the moms.

*Staying up late to watch Horatio Hornblower.

I've been getting ready for summer!  It is basically hitting our family in two weeks and then it is non-stop fun for two months.  I'm so excited!

On the docket include: a trip to Oregon (Hannah in Maryland at that time), a visit from my favorite-est Medford friend with her three daughters, a family reunion and play-time with Nathan and Jelaire, picking Brynne up from the airport after a week in Utah, two sisters visiting, Girls Camp for Hannah, going back to Oregon, and a trip to Spain.  I'm sure by August we'll be ready for a break.

For school we are in the throes of American History study.  We did a brief study of the Revolutionary War.  Right now we are learning about Lewis and Clark.  We'll touch on the War of 1812.  Anyone know what that was about?  It's one of our country's least-studied and understood wars, but in it, we finally and completely pushed the British out of our lives.  Yay for independence!

We are starting a new writing program called "Writing Strands".  I did the first lesson yesterday with Logan and Brynne.  So far, we enjoyed it.  I like that the lessons are pretty short. Especially for Logan.  Brynne could have done more, but it was a perfect stopping place for Logan - before he got bored.

Our chickens are still providing much entertainment.  They are named Lady and Jazzy.  Jazzy is still not laying.  I think she's too old.  But we like her anyway.  Our evening entertainment consists of watching Lady launch herself at the back door's window.  It gives obvious meaning to the insult "bird-brain" because she tries it repeatedly almost every night.  They are very busy clearing our yard of bugs and snails.  That's what they're here for!

I've been busy with some various projects.  I planted flowers in a pot on the porch.  I know that for some people that is not a big deal, but for me it is.  I decided that maybe a little beauty at the entry to our home was in order.  For a minimal cost, I can keep putting things in there all year, if necessary.  And it might be.

Yesterday I took the butterfly curtains out of Logan's room.  For some reason he didn't want them.  I just can't predict what that kid will want.  I made a simple valance out of the leftover red stool-cover fabric that happens to match some of the stuff he has in his room.  He's feeling more manly about that room now.  ;-)  I'm in the process of putting up curtains in the little girls' room.  Did you know that Target carries blackout curtains in fun kid colors?  Just what I needed!

Didn't Josh tell any "Yo Mama" jokes during his talk?
